In October, energy consumption fell by 3.4% compared to the same period last year

Electricity demand fell by 3.4% from last year, which is the lowest mark for the month since 2012, the Foundation for Electric Development (Fundelec) announced yesterday.

In the same sense, the consumption of federal capital and suburbs of Buenos Aires showed a significant decline in Edesur (-3.1%) and Edenor (-4%), while the rest of the country recorded the same trend: -3.3%, according to provisional data to manage the electricity market, Cammes.

Fundelec explained that the reduction in demand was for residential, commercial and industrial users across the country: October was the second lowest spending for the whole year, and the lowest mark for that month since 2012, in nominal terms.

Thus, after one quarter (June, July and August), with an increase of 5.8% compared to the same period last year, the most frequent two-month decrease (September-October) was recorded in percentages (-4.4%), while in the First For ten months in 2018, demand grew by 1.6% compared to the same period of 2017.

In October 2018, the total net demand for the Wholesale Electricity Market (MEM) amounted to 9,875.1 GVh; with an annual decline of 3.4%; however, there was a growth of 1 month compared to September 2018.

Of the total consumption in October, 40% (3,928.8 GWh) accounted for housing demand, while the commercial sector accounted for 29% (2,920.4 GWh) and the industrial sector 31% (3,025.9 GWh).

Also, in comparison with the year, housing demand fell by -1.3%, while commercial demand fell by -4%, while industrial demand showed an even higher decline: -5.7%.

Even so, after ten months of the year, demand for electricity increased by 1.6%.

Regarding consumption over the country, on October 18, provinces and companies that marked the decline: Catamarca (-46%), San Luis (-12%), San Juan (-11%), Chubut (-7%)) , Jujui (-7%), La Rioja (-7%), Tucuman (-6%), Cordoba (-5%), Santiago del Estero (-5%), Eden (-4%), Edes 3%) , Entre Rios (-3%), Santa Fe (-2%), La Pampa (-1%), Mendoza (-1%), among others.

In turn, there were 7 promotions in the electrical demands of the MEM in Chaco (9%), Santa Cruz (9%), Corrientes (3%), Formosi (3%), Misionesu (3%), Edei %)), Edelap (1%), among others.

In the meantime, Rio Negro and Salta have kept their spending levels in line with the year, explains Fondelec.

In addition, he pointed out that the average temperature in October was 17.8 ° C, while in the same month of the previous year it was 18.2 ° C, and the historical 17.3 ° C.

In this context, the local generation showed a decrease compared to October 2017, which is 10,371 GWh for this month compared to 10,587 GWh for the same period of the previous year. As in the last few months, the import share was low when it comes to meeting demand: 25 GVh was imported by October 2018 compared to 13 GVh imported in October 2017.
