Space telescope Hubble of NASA and European Space Agency captures image of “dangerous dance” of two merging galaxies. These are two spiral constellations located one hundred million light years from Earth: NGC 5953 i NGC 5954. After merging, the scientists gave it a common name: Arp 91.
Arp 91 is an example of a galactic interaction. The expanded image shows that NGC 5953 (at the bottom) “pulls” NGC 5954. “The enormous gravitational pull of two galaxies leads to their interaction”said NASA, which stressed that these interaction phenomena are “common” as well as “an important part of galactic evolution.”
Andromeda and the Milky Way
In addition, NASA explained that collisions of spiral galaxies can lead to the formation of elliptical galaxies. The fusion is estimated to occur in about 4.5 billion years.
