In the last week of the vaccination against smallpox and rubella, which lasts until November 30, the Ministry of Health calls for the presence of 12 percent of children between 13 months and 4 years who still need to receive.
So far, 88% of the target population has been vaccinated, says the director of Epidemiology Ana Bertone. This vaccine is free and will be required for the next registration in kindergartens.
The campaign began at the national level on October 1 and extended until November 30th, vaccinated children from 13 months to 4 years in the whole province "with an additional dose of a triple viral vaccine that is free."
Bertone pointed out that this vaccine population involves just over 20,000 children of the province, of which there should still be three thousand missing, "reach the goal." Differentiation in age groups indicated that they lack "especially the youngest".
The official also commented that different strategies were designed because "we know that the worst part is the hardest, the population that usually does not attend to be vaccinated." He explained that this vaccination campaign against smallpox and rubella is a public health strategy that is a priority by the provincial government and is mandatory.
In this regard, he noted that "this is the documentation that will be required for enrolling children in the next school year of kindergarten". In addition, he said that he is working at the national level so that Anses requires the same documentation on procedures that suit the family, "trying to do so in order to make the vaccine effective".
All this relates, says Bertone, "because we are talking about diseases that are only prevented by vaccines that do not have specific treatment and which are the causes of morbidity and mortality in children under 5 years of age in immunocompromised people, and also with rubella with congenital the rubella syndrome that brings malformations to unborn children. In addition, he stressed, without a doubt, that these preventive measures are a priority.
In order to strengthen this strategy, the official gave the example of Venezuela, where it ceased to be vaccinated ahead of the crisis, "and already has more than 5000 cases of smallpox with more than 70 deaths, this is a sign that if vaccination, these types of illness are again appear. "
On the other hand, he claimed that "vaccines are the victim of her success: When you have high coverage, people forget about the risk of illness, but they are not only because they vaccinate, but when they stop, these diseases are coming back." And in that sense the same happens with tetanus, with pertussis, with diphtheria, stunning and ruby, "it means back on the back," he said.
Especially in relation to La Pampa, he said: "We had suspicious cases that we excluded." There are 14 cases in Argentina, in Buenos Aires, which are controlled. "But," he explained, "we have a constant risk, there is a group of vulnerable people, which means children who are not vaccinated, plus 10% who are but do not react to the vaccine, so there is a group of susceptible diseases, plus the entire epidemiological situation in the world. "
Lastly, to emphasize this last stage of vaccination, the Director of Epidemiology reiterated that the team of health teams gives priority to this campaign, "the vaccination schedules have been extended, and in different places they leave the house to find those who have disappeared."
He added this notice through the media to people who have not yet come to vaccinate "to do so in the nearest Health Center, because the entire province of this campaign is free."
They take the day to the HOBP
In the organization of the Ministry of Health of the Province and Hospital Lucio Molas, the Day of Consciousness of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (HOBP) will be held today, from 9 to 12 in San Martin Square. Spirometry (pulmonary measures) will currently be performed for those who want it.
The statement was written by Laura Vigliotta, the assistant director of the hospital Lucio Molas and the pneumonist of the institute Lujan Rolando.
Vigliotta highlighted the goals and scope of the initiative in terms of prevention. "This pathology affects between 14 and 15% of the Argentine population in people over 40 years old, it is one of the most common chronic illnesses in the world. Because of the implications of it, both in the quality of life of patients and in pathologies that could be released, is that we are now carrying out awareness and discovery for those who want to be screened (HOBP measurements), "Expert told a press conference.
Rolando has in the meantime referred to the characteristics of people who are able to undertake preventive measures: "People over 40 who have smoked or smoked at some point in their life. All these patients should have a spirometry study. today) we will facilitate access to the study, although it is easy to do in the hospital. "
In that sense, he said: "In the first case, we will do this by simple measurements using the instrument, we will use it quickly and forcefully for six seconds, and the lung capacity will be achieved. If the patient does not reach the standard airflow value, there is a spirometry there."
Pumpanologists have added that "90% of patients with HOBP are smokers, but in other values it is also provided by kitchen or wood heating. Patients suffering from this pathology notice this when they move less and less physical effort."
