Why is the month of December known as the cold month?

Long nights of nights bring crystal clear sky to the north hemisphere, allowing the cold moon to shine the light in the night sky.

Every full moon has a different name depending on which year it falls. The Harvest Month is the most famous example that occurs every year about the autumn balance.

December full moon earned the nickname "cold moon".

In 2018, the cold month falls directly after the winter solstice on Friday and at the top of Ursid Meteor Tuša. This is a small meteor shower, so people should only be expected to see a few shooting stars per hour.

The origin of nicknames given every full moon can be monitored for hundreds of years by the Indians.

"In American cultures that were following the calendar on a monthly basis, December's full moon was known as" Full Cold Moon, "said Almanac Old Farmer.

"It's appropriate to link with the month when winter cold strengthens relaxation, and the nights become long and dark," said Almanac Old Farmer.

The December full moon is called Long Long Moon, because it usually appears near the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year.

Other names for the final full month of the year include Moon Before Iule, Oak Moon and Bitter Moon.

Although the December full moon passes with several different names, it will appear the same in the sky as other full moons throughout the year.

However, the Moon may look larger when it is near the horizon for something that is known as the illusion of the moon.

"This is an optical illusion. Because of the reason astronomers or psychologists do not fully understand, the low hanging moons seem unnaturally big when they pass through trees, buildings, or other objects in the front," NASA said.

If the weather darkens the sky and blocks the moon at night when it's full, observers can go out and watch the sky before or after night after they're still full.
