The Flemish Pigeon Armando has become the most expensive pigeon ever sold worldwide. The bird was auctioned on Sunday for a record amount of EUR 1,252,000 on auction sale in Knesselare, East Flanders, can be read on the website of the auction house Pipa, which organized the sale. At the auction in Armand there was a conflict between two potential buyers in China, a war that postponed the end of the sale at noon, instead of 11:00 in the beginning.
The animal belonged to the Verschoot family of Ingelmunster in West Flanders. This week, this family sold 178 pigeons in the total amount of more than two million euros.
The sale marks the end of Armand's career as one of the best birds in the world's history of pigeons. The buyer, the Chinese, will surely use the bird for reproductive purposes to give birth to new champions. There is a great chance Armando will stay in Belgium. From a commercial point of view, it's really more interesting to sell his offspring in a flat country.
