Our brain can have a community of bacteria similar to the microbial tube

Our body is full of bacteria; In our skin, mouth, intestines and other tissues, we can find bacterial communities that fulfill important biological processes. For example, various investigations have shown that microbial tubes participate in many important processes for our body, such as digestion, immune responses, among others.

There is a multitude of discoveries on this subject that are constantly being published about the importance of human microbials; However, a recent survey might break certain paradigms in the field. In this regard, the team of researchers suggests that in our brain can be bacterial communities, similar to those found in our intestines and other tissues.

Scientists discover bacterial communities in the human brain

The research was led by Rosalinda Roberts, who works as a neuroanatomist. To reach this conclusion, the researcher assessed brain tissue samples from 34 deceased people; Of these people, half were diagnosed with schizophrenia, while others were in good health. Thus, after a series analysis of the present microorganisms, they discovered that a variable amount of bacteria live in these brains.

These microorganisms were rods and consisted of capsules, nucleosides, ribosomes and vacuoles, just like any other bacteria. In particular, the researchers noted that the density of these bacterial communities varies depending on the structure of the brain being analyzed.

In this way, large quantities of microorganisms were found in the substance of the nigra, in the hippocampus and in the prefrontal cortex. In the same line, researchers have discovered bacteria in brain cells called astrocytes, which play an important role in the process of neural communication.

In addition to identifying possible microbes in the brain, researchers currently do not know the origin of these bacteria; In this regard, it was concluded that bacteria could be reported there after they were transplanted from the gut by the circulation system, crossing the blood-brain barrier until it was established in the brain. Even so, it is not excluded that these bacteria entered the brain tissue after a process of surgical contamination during autopsy.

After this discovery, the researchers conducted experiments that enabled them to discover that the microbial brain was not limited to humans; In that sense, when the brain of a healthy mice group is analyzed, the presence of bacteria has been demonstrated. However, when working with mice anchored in environments without calls under conditions of isolation, it was not possible to observe the presence of this microbiome. It is therefore still early to confirm the results.

By synthesis, researchers have discovered that the human brain can be the home of a particular microbiome, just like other tissues in our body. However, the research order is still at an early stage so that the results become somebody's definitive.

Based on this, researchers explain that, given that the origin of these bacteria is still unknown, it is not possible to determine if the microbial is part of a normal healthy brain, or if, on the contrary, the discovery is a result of contamination during the study.

Even so, the existence of a microbial brain can revolutionize the neuroscience. Therefore, the researchers suggested that they continue to analyze this phenomenon in order to determine if there is really microbial in the brain and what its effect on health is.
