“On Friday, UVN received the request of the President of the Senate of the Czech Republic and is resolving it with its responsibility and urgently,” the CTK spokeswoman wrote. She did not specify when the hospital would respond to the request.
Senate President Milos Vistrcil (ODS) addressed the UVN with a request from the upper house’s administration after the Office of the President of the Republic did not respond to a similar request by Friday. The reason for the request is the ambiguity regarding the health condition of Zeman, who was hospitalized again on Sunday after three weeks.
The reason is the complications that accompany his chronic illness, said doctor Zeman and director of the Central Hospital Miroslav Zavoral on Sunday. He did not give the president an accurate diagnosis of the president, because he does not have his consent. Zeman was transferred to the intensive care unit.
They want a prognosis, not a diagnosis
Senators after the hospital do not want to reveal any medical secrets. However, for possible further steps, they want to know what the president currently looks like and what the prognoses are in terms of functioning as head of state. The data is essential for possible negotiations on the transfer of presidential powers to other constitutional officials during Zeman’s incapacity. This step would be possible only with the consent of both houses of parliament.
The mandate of the House of Representatives ends next week, and the lower house will meet in the post-election composition on November 8. After his inaugural meeting, incumbent Prime Minister Andrej Babis (DA) will hand over the resignation of the incumbent government to the president. Until then, according to the senator, the president is not needed in the post-election negotiations to build a new cabinet.
He stood out on Friday and suspended access to the presidential office. “I am not sure that all the steps taken by the office of the President of the Republic are being consulted with the President and that he has agreed with all of them,” said the President of the Senate. “Since I had the opportunity to meet with the president, I am convinced that he would not approve at least some things,” he added.
The president’s chancellor, Vratislav Minar, then wrote in response that he would comment on the situation at the beginning of next week after the agreement with Zeman’s family.
Senate Vice President Jiri Ruzicka from the Mayors’ Club stated, among other things, that they are representatives of the President’s Office, at least in recent weeks. For example, according to a spokesman for Castle, the president ate apricot dumplings or wine sausage this week. The hospital said it could not be held responsible for statements by other entities about the president’s health.
Uncertainties and contradictory statements are also connected with the announcement of the current president of the council, Radek Vondraček (DA), who visited Zeman in the closed ward of the hospital in order to sign the decision to convene a new council. There are doubts about the authenticity of the signature, the matter is being investigated by the police.
