On Thursday, BMV introduced the plug-in hybrid version of its recently-discovered third generation series.
Adding a badge of the 330e outbound hybrid 3-Series plug-in, the new car also has a similar drive for the replacement model, but delivers more power and an electric range.
There is also a new feature called KstraBoost, which is as an overboost turbocharger, with extra power, but only if there is enough charge in the battery.
The powertrain 330e consists of a 2.0-liter turbo-4 that works with an electric motor integrated with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Only ride on the rear wheels, just like in the standard 3-series.
The peak output is 252 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque, but the KstraBoost function adds an extra 41 hp when the vehicle is in a sport mode and a lithium-ion battery capacity of 12 kWh is enough.
BMV quotes 0-62 mph for 6.0 seconds and a top speed of 143 mph. With only electricity, the maximum speed drops to 87 miles per hour. BMV claims that the total electric range 330e will be 37 miles, but the EPA's final figure may be lower.
2020 BMV 330e will be on sale in the summer of 2019. Availability in the United States has not yet been announced, but we should see it by 2020. Also, the arrival for 2020 will be the M340i M Performance model, and we also expect the new 3-Series Sports Vagon bodi styles also arriving.
