The Ministry of Revenue seized containers filled with clothing, medicine, electronics and motor vehicles worth 15 million marks that were supposed to be smuggled into the country. In addition, the Ministry has found more than 11,000 narcotics, which amounts to 4.8 million Br.
The Ministry also seized other items estimated at 10 million Br which were imported using diplomatic bags. Materials are parts of vehicles and security cameras ordered by the embassy in the capital using diplomatic privileges.
"The ministry continuously increases border security and strict controls are in place," says Ephrem Mekonnen, director of education and communications at the Ministry.
The ministry could also uncover 8.9 million Br products in the border town of Moiala, which were supposed to be smuggled. These things were clothing, medicine, electronic goods and 35 motorcycles.
"As we get more potential from the public, we are now able to use more illegal trading," Ephrem said.
