The seismographs of today at 01:38 in the Ionian Sea recorded an immense 4.8 magnitude earthquake in the Richter scale, according to a report recently published by the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens on behalf of the four bodies of the National Seismological Network.
According to the statement, the earthquake epicenter was located in the marine area 36 kilometers west-southwest of Zakynthos and 285 kilometers west of Athens.
Zakynthos was tested at the end of October by a strong earthquake of 6.4 degrees on Richter scale, which, however, caused only material damage. Since then, seismic activity has been intensified in the Ionian Sea.
