National Iiddish Theater Folksbiene production "Fiddler on the roof" will move to Off Broadvai Stage 42 in Midtown, where the reviews will begin on February 11, 2019. Opening is scheduled for February 21st.
A musical, who follows the story of Tev and his family in the imperial Russian settlement palace in 1905, ends at the Jewish Heritage Museum in Lower Manhattan on December 30th.
In English they were written by Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick and Joseph Stein, based on the work of Solomon Aleichem, the show that he originally opened on Broadway in 1964. The musical was translated into Yiddish by Shragh Friedman and first performed in Israel in 1965.
This production, in Yiddish with English and Russian supertilitals, has been extended four times since the start of July 4th and is praised as an unexpected success.
Directed by Joel Grey, Steven Skibell will present his role as Tevie, as well as Jackie Hoffman as Iente. The production will be presented by Hal Luftig and Jana Robbins.
