Latvian men’s tennis leader Ernests Gulbis lost the first qualifying round of the “Challenger” series tournament in Istanbul on Sunday and suffered his second failure in two games in the 2021 season, according to the organizers.
Swan’s participation in the qualifications in Turkey ended after the defeat in two sets with 4-6, 5-7 by the tennis player of the Dominican Republic, Robert Sid Subervi. At the rank of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), Gulbis ranks 185th, but his opponent is 231st.
In the qualifications, Gulbis placed with the fourth number, but the failure in the first game prevented him from earning points on the rank. Qualifiers must go through two rounds to enter the main event.
Earlier in the week, Gulbis also failed in the first qualifying round of the Australian Open.
