Astronomer Abraham Loeb of the Harvard University is convinced that a prototype space ship has been built on Earth.
Together with colleagues, Loeb believes that the unusual Oumuamu trajectory and the enormous speed can mean that this spaceship is no longer in use.
Oumuamua is the first object to be seen in the solar system, which is believed to have arrived outside our planetary system.
"We were lucky enough to find our telescope in the right place at the right time to see this historic moment," NASA Defense Planner Linda Johnson said.
