RIO DE JANEIRO, November 10 (Xinhua) – A man was killed and another seriously injured during a clash between football fans in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.
The incident occurred before the Brazilian Serie A derby between Flamengo and Botafogo in the Engenhao stadium in the northern suburbs of Rioja.
The police said that violence broke out because opposing supporters crossed tracks in the neighborhood of Ilha to Governador, also in northern Rioja.
The names of the victims, both of Flamengo fans, were not detected, and the police said they had launched an investigation.
Botafogo won the match with 2: 1, which led to a blow to Flamengo's surprise to win his first title in the first flight since 2009.
