JAMMU: More than 27.85 infant children received a vaccine against a malignant disease (MR) during a vaccine campaign against Jammu and Kashmir, an official spokesman said on Saturday. The campaign was launched on September 24 to cover nearly 38 lakh children in the age group of nine months to 15 years to eliminate the rubella virus caused by congenital rubella syndrome.

"A total of 37,72,960 children will be covered in the state, of which 27,85,731 have been vaccinated to date, with 17,00,994 children enrolled in the Kashmir department and 10,84,737 in the Jammu department," the spokesman said.
It is expected that the campaign will be completed by the end of this month in relation to the scheduled deadline of October 20. Campaign against measles-rubella marks the introduction of a rubella vaccine in the Indian childhood immunization program for the first time.
