According to portal local.it, on Sunday in Piedmont, a rare 850 grams of truffles worth 85,000 euros were sold at the auction. It was bought by an anonymous businessman from Hong Kong.
In total, during the auction, mushrooms were sold for a total of 393 thousand euros.
So far, at the annual auction, large white truffles have been sold at a price of 100 euros per gram. – The price of this unique truffle does not correspond to the market price, which this year is about 350 euros per 100 grams – said the spokeswoman of this event. What explains such a high offer is the fact that the money will be spent on charity purposes, as well as the unity of truffles of 850 grams, because the higher truffle, the more it is worth.
As the auction organizers emphasized, this year's harvest was excellent, both in terms of quantity and quality of truffles. – Last year, drought led to poor harvesting, said Antonio Degiacomi, head of the Italian national truffle research center. He also added that the rain and storms in July and August this year provided enough water for truffles.
Auction was made using satellite connections. In the Alba, in the period of 88 years, as part of the annual truffle market, auctions of these unusual mushrooms are organized.
