Huawei surpassed Apple's biggest global phone sales this year and became the world's second-largest smartphone supplier this year, according to market share at the end of the second quarter. The new target for a Chinese company is to cross, and is currently owned by Samsung, by 2020.

"Next year we will be very close to the first issue, maybe we'll be compared to Samsung, and at least next year we might have a chance to be the first," said Richard Iu, director of Huawei Consumer Division, for CNBC in an exclusive interview.

Huawei talks about switching phones, 5G technology and reinforced eyes of reality. But it was not always a world-class company. In fact, Huawei did not even have his smartphone by 2010, three years after Apple first debuted with the first iPhone.

The company has become one of the largest technology companies in China due to the growth of mobile network equipment and is now one of the largest suppliers in the world for this market. It was also an original designer (ODM), which meant that he designed and manufactured devices for other companies.

The innovation was the key to Huawei's emissary

In 2010, Huawei launched its first smartphone called IDEOS with Google Android, costing about 60 euros. Eight years later, the company launches phones with original artificial intelligence and premium equipment at over 1,000 euros.

The transition from ODM to today's giant was implemented by Richard Iu, who previously worked for Huawei's business operations (B2B) and became Consumer Group General Manager in 2012. weather conditions, some market trends have made Iu see Huawei's potential in the phone market, including switching from smartphones to smartphones and the arrival of 4G mobile internet.

He decided Huawei to stop producing classic phones and to focus on high-end smartphones with stronger batteries and larger screens, just as consumers demand.

The CEO says he likes to take risks, which helped Huawei grow rapidly.

"I encourage the team to have this ability to innovate, to make bold innovations, to do something that some people would say a little crazy, to provoke themselves and the industry," Iu told CNBC.

Future plans

For Iu, Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be a key technology that will bring smartphones to the next level and help the company grow in the future.

"AI will come in. AI will be the engine for all future services and will be elementary to work on multiple devices, connect all applications." The biggest change in the next ten years will be the possibility of an AI phone, "Iu said.

Huawei is currently working on a switching phone that will debut next year and will be the first phone of 5G. Yu also said that the factory also has a uniform cup of reality. These new technologies could improve Huawei's growth mechanism.

In turn, Samsung CEO, DJ Koh, told the CNBC for a September interview that the company is changing its mid-range smartphone strategy to bring new innovative features to its lower cost phones, a movement that could help alleviate Huawei's threat. This strategy is seen in Galaki A9, the world's first smartphone with a compact lens, launched in October.

And Samsung will not be easy to beat. It fell from its first position in the smartphone market three times over the past five years, usually only a quarter, according to Counterpoint Research.

Neil Shah, director of research at Counterpoint, estimates Huawei should sell between 30 and 40 million smartphones a quarter to overtake Samsung.

However, Shah said that Samsung sales could be calmed down by fierce competition, which Huawei could become number one.

Iu ambitions are bigger than smartphones. They want Huawei to start developing new products like laptops and smart speakers. Iu aims to create an ecosystem of smart devices.

"We want to take the lead in the next ten years to become an integrated intelligent solution," said Iu CNBC.
