"This program, designed by a mutual agreement between Senegal and China, was suspended after a joint field mission conducted by certified experts on both sides. The targeted works have a total cost of 40 billion CFA francs, more than half of the stadium Leopold Sedar Senghor" , said Matar Ba.
The minister of sports also pointed out that this project will cover, among other things, "sports equipment and facilities, football, basketball and handball courts, athletics tracks, decorations and decorations, electrical systems and mechanical and construction structures".
Respecting "dynamic and coherent cooperation" between Senegal and China, Mr. Ba said that "a public call will be launched in China so that in 2 to 3 months the company in charge of the work can set a date for their effective start.
Moreover, the sports minister pointed out that "sport activity, however massive, is only sustainable and acceptable if it is practiced in a standardized environment and that it has all the functional advantages necessary for its expression." According to him, that's why "President Macki Sall has made a program of building and modernizing the Senegalese stadium a first-class and high priority role in applying its political offer."
For his part, Han Xiaofei, an economic and social advisor at the Chinese Embassy in Dakar, immediately congratulated Senegal for "organizing the Youth Olympic Games (IOG) in 2022". Continuing, the diplomat recalled that "China has long advocated helping Senegal in strengthening sports infrastructure."
According to Mr. Xiaofei, "Significant development of the sports sector in the past few years under the chairmanship of Mackey Sall" is more than enough to be convinced. In addition, he said that the new project was born from the promise of Xi Jinping, the president of China during a visit to Senegal in July last year.
In closing his remarks, Han Xiaofei promised the good will of his country. "China will follow Senegal to rehabilitate four stadiums and provide technical assistance." The Chinese side will not work to improve these projects and will ensure that the Senegalese population can take advantage of these phases as soon as possible, "he promised.
