SINGAPORE – A group of Otters was spotted at the Bukit Timah Bus Station on Thursday morning (May 30th).
A group of six people was also seen near MRT Stevens station the same day, as well as near the Adam Road Food Center a night earlier, according to non-labeled posts on the OtterVatch Facebook page.
The Straits Times reader noticed the otters at Bukit Timah Road around 7 am when she sent the children to school.
"They were initially frozen on the road, and then they tried to cross the road," said the 37-year-old who wanted to be known only as Mrs. Lim.
"It was a bit scary, they tried several times before they were able to cross safely."
She added that in the morning it was an unexpected and unusual sight and that the otters were "very sweet".
Otter lovers Bernard Seah, 50, identified the group as the Zouk Otters, listed as such when spotted near the former Zouk site in Jiak Kim Street in the second half of 2018.
He said that the group was seen in the Bukit Timach area while the otters were fleeing from the Bishan Otter family visiting the island of Zouk along the Singapore River on Wednesday.
Bishan Group, as well as the Marina Otter family, are two famous otter families here.
Asked how the Zouk Otters could end up in the Bukit Timah area, he said that this was the general direction they moved into.
Mr. Seah explained that the otters demand the land as much water as they need, adding that it is a common mistake to think that the otters are doing everything in the water.
"They need a sleeping and holiday country, and running and moving around the country is something that makes these smooth otters feel very well," he added.
The Zouk Outbreak Group consists of three adults and three descendants, with three cubs born at the end of November last year.
"It seems that Zutski otres does not lack the curiosity of the otter, in fact a little more than usual. They have recently been spotted on the perimeter of Istane," said Mr. Seah.
This is not the first time that Otters have been spotted in the Bukit Timah area. In 2017, Stomp reported that a group of otters was seen outside the Hua Chong Institution. It is believed that these were marina otters.
In the meantime, Stomp reported that the dead otter was found along Iishun Avenue 1 on Thursday morning.
