The Pink Diamond under 19 cards won 39.1 million euros at an auction in Geneva.

The contract was preceded by a six-month tender for the sale of Christie's auction house on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. The starting price for "Pink Legacy" was 21 million euros. Due to their weight and intense, almost completely uniform colors, jewelers were appreciated by connoisseurs who were extremely exceptional. Only one of the 100,000 diamonds has such quality, they said. Including collection fees, the diamond costs € 44 million.

The diamond of nearly 19 cards "Pink Legacy" was bought by American luxury gem Harry Winston, as announced by Christie's Auction House.

«Leonardo Da Vinci Diamonds»

$ 2.6 million per karat is the world record for pink diamond, said Christie's head in Europe, Francois Curiel. "For me, this stone is Leonardo da Vinci of diamonds."

For a long time, "Pink Legacy" belongs to the Oppenheimer family, who once operated the mining company De Beers. The stone was discovered more than 100 years ago in South Africa and processed in the 1920s. The new owner was immediately renamed "Vinston Pink Legacy" after the auction.

High demand for extremely rare pieces has led to a sharp rise in prices in the last few years. Record diamond "Pink Star" changed hands in 2017 at an auction in Hong Kong for about 67 million euros. Titles also made the sale of a blue diamond two years ago for about 51 million euros.
