Media: FIFA asked for twice as much money from EA for a license FIFA

During the negotiations on the new license agreement, the International Football Federation asked Electronic Arts twice as much money for the right to use the FIFA brand. The sports organization wants to raise over a billion dollars in four years. This was reported by The New York Times, citing its own sources.

According to journalists, the increase in the price of the license was not the only obstacle to the extension of the contract. The federation wants to limit EA to publishing video games only. The developer, in turn, plans to make money from other sources, for example, from the FIFA tournament. In addition, the management of the sports organization is investigating the issue of cooperation with other video game companies.

Electronic Arts has previously registered a new trademark EA Sports FC. The network suggested that it could be a new name for the FIFA series. In early October, the publisher announced the possibility of renaming the football simulator franchise. Later, the publisher announced the extension of the contract with the International Federation of Professional Footballers’ Associations (FIFPro). This will allow him to use the names and performances of all the athletes represented by the organization.
