This winter flu season, which started earlier than normal throughout Canada, confirmed its first victim in Ottawa.
Ottawa Public Health confirmed an unidentified patient over 65 years ago earlier this month, one of the 12 confirmed cases of influenza since September 1st.
Last year, 21 Ottawa deaths were linked to the flu.
The Canadian Public Health Agency said that this year's flu season officially began on Sunday, October 21-27, earlier than in recent years.
Last year, the flu season began on Sunday, November 5th.
The agency said the most common virus of influenza in country A (H1N1) pdm09, similar to those used in this flu vaccine this season.
From November 3, the Ottawa region had a relatively higher flu level than in other parts of the country.
